a quick couple of updates for anyone keeping score.
for those uninterested... AVERT YOUR EYES!

first and foremost i would like to introduce the adorable "BlurMilkCarton" LJ icon to everyone.
awwww. he is so happy to see you that he has decided to do a little dancing!

despite Jaguar's lamentations my return flight to Detroit has been pushed back from friday night to laaaate saturday. i will, hopefully, be returning to the Great Lakes State sometime early Sunday EST. (dude)

i only got half way through "Game People Play" but after finishing the somewhat arduous "Birth Of Plenty" and receiving a rather sweet parcel from an enchanting young woman, i feel compelled to update / change my summer book list.

orthodox:
Games People Play - Eric Berne
The Birth of Plenty - William Bernstein
The Analects - Confucius
The Abolition of Man - C.S. Lewis
The Screwtape Letters - C.S. Lewis
Sonnets from the Portuguese and Other Poems - Elizabeth Barret Browning
reformed:
The Philosophy Of Law - Jeffrie Murphy
Flags Of Our Fathers - James Bradley
The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien
An Introduction To Legal Reasoning - Edward Levi
Lowell's Poems - James Lowell

the two law books haven't been much of a " improvement over the dry and over-reaching material of GPP and tBoP but they are still pretty durn cool. a lot of tPoL reads likes a practiced lecture from an intro-to-jurisprudence class but i'd imagine that is as good a place as any to start. if nothing else, it's a whole new world of shit to get geeked over.

Deek just sent me "The Eraser" and "The Avalanche", i am currently absorbing their sound waves directly into my brain. maybe i will post my thoughts on Mr. York's and Mr. Stevens' "albums" at some point in the future. maybe not. thanks again to Mr. Decker.
but that's all for now.
love for my friends. love for my enemies.

yo!
(teh) gay fever!
catch it!
San Francisco has (or some comparable form of social sexual acceptance) and lemme tell you i love it. me and Beefy T took in a really chill and enjoyable afternoon downtown on Sunday observing the remains of the big gay pride parade that had ended earlier. as always, i was late but i think the outing on the whole was a success. as a "straight" dude (wtf sexual labels?!) i can pretty comfortably say that being in an environment where any sort of homosexual thought was accepted, or at least not given negative sanctions, made me feel really liberated. not liberated like "out of the closet" or "hungry for the cock" just liberated enough to want to feel that way all the time. or at least to wish i felt that way when i was younger. i dunno. homophobia = bad for everyone.
my work has been kind of routine so far but i have really enjoyed the time spent talking to friends while off of work. phone calls. letters. instant messages. i am a very lucky man. i will home this weekend starting on Saturday and staying until Wednesday the 5th. i have a couple plans with some people i am really looking forward to seeing. i hope this visit doesn't feel as rushed as the last one.
i read / responded to a little lj-meme in Alexa's journal and thought i would follow up with my own. the rules are pretty simple and i tried to include enough lyric units in each song to make them guessable. click the link if your number one skill is either "careful reasoning", "calligraphy" or "guessing".

anywho, that is all for now.
much love,
scott kane

i am, at this very moment, sitting at my hotel desk looking west to the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and marveling at how quickly my little world changes. i flew into San Francisco yesterday (after a 4 hour delay in DTW... grrr) and have been composing my mood solely of sunshine and buttercups ever since. i will try to stay (start being) soft-spoken but i almost feel overwhelmed with my growing understanding of the incredible privilege that permeates my life.
after crossing four timezones and much of the American West, i cannot relate the emotional stew of camaraderie, familarity and excitement created by meeting up with John yesterday. we spent much of the afternoon and evening galavanting about the many hills and highways of downtown and metro San Francisco. he was nice enough to show me around the campus of the mind boggling Google-plex. though his demeanor through out the visit was both appropriately demure and wonted (as you might expect any employee to be in his place of vocation), i was immediatelt struck dumb by the campus and spent the rest of the night feeling equally nonplussed and joyous. the building is insane. i can only describe it as mixing Willy Wonka's chocolate factory's playful sense of industry with the spectacular architectural non-sequitor of the Pražský hrad. there were ballpits! i would continue describing the experience but i don't want to give away any of the precious "industry secrets" John kept alluding to (pure pomp, i suspect). we also spent a few hours walking around some cool downtown parks and the Haight Ashbury district. i will keep our intentions for the walkabout to myself but reveal that our expectations were met and in some ways pleasantly surpassed (as described in corollary by John himself : http://beefyt.livejournal.com). my appropriated copy of "On The Road" revealed no such cryptic lunacies. too bad.
i think i will cut this entry off at this point. i have to get some sleep before i start my midnight shift at the airport tonight. ugh. on the plus side i don't think i will have to put in the normal 8 to 5 tomorrow.
i can feel the weight of what the next few months in San Francisco could be. it is both a challenging and exciting scenario. hopefully i will be able to CAPITALIZE!
much love,
scott kane stukel

the war has begun. just twenty minutes ago we were all friends enjoying a lull after some delicious deep dish pizza. now, the lesser of two great nations has staged an unprovoked attack on my and Deek's soveirgnty. bit it was not also like this...

Chris, Deek and Doug came up to visit me this weekend. what a swell group of fellas. we've had alot of fun in the last couple days, some highlights include:
for them:
- attending and looting a massive candy convention, whilst posing as "businessmen".
(deek likes oh! henry bars) oh yes. yes he does!
- visits to a music shop.
- following a hot chick in a Corolla on the highway for some 16+ miles.

for me:
- 2 more miserable days of work.
- multiple false accusations of theft and ineptitude at work.
- a great and swelling anticipation foreshadowing the my eventual recieving of a letter. truly appreciated.

for us:
- watching the tigers beat the white sox at Comiskey.
- cursing and lusting over women. rude and beautiful alike.
- much basketball.
- much silly giggling and pillowfighting. my favorite.

well that will be all for now. another long day to be caught tired in the mid-day son awaits us tomorrow.
i love the people who let me into their lives,
scott kane stukel

hello to anyone reading this.
i started this livejournal for a couple of reasons. the first being the most basic function of any work of writing, personal expression and the coincidental elucidation of my opinions and thoughts, and the second reason being a sincere attempt to stay connected to the people and voices i value in my life for various reasons. if you are reading this you are probably someone i have, regretably, had to disconnect myself from for the next couple months as i go about my business travels. though i am sad to leave that which i am comfortable with, it seems that stability is not going to be an attribute in my life for a couple years. hopefully i will make the most of the incredible opportunities that i am offered rather than simply fill myself with remorse over the opportunity costs associated with necessary decisions of my life. part of this journal is an attempt to continue my valued dialogue with both my friends and myself. it is strange to wake up and realize that my day to day life now puts very little premium on personal introspection or even a critical life perspective. my time and thoughts has started their forced journey towards being weighed and measured. i do not resent this inevitability (it does feels great to pay the bills!) as every man must live inside his means and times but i lament the lifestyle that accompanies it. additionally, i think it is important to mention i will also be keeping a more personal physical journal (real live paper and leather!) for thoughts that are too silly or experimental and don't really need to be shared. alot of the other journal will function as lyric writing exercises and observational nonsense. basically i think of the two journals as being two parts of the same project and there will, of course, be some level of overlap between my private and social self.
anyways, that is enough for now. later tonight i will probably post the full "who, what when, where and why" of my situation. in the mean time i should mention that while i will enjoy all comments posted in responce to this journal, i do NOT want to make this either an obligation or coercive extraction of everyone's valuable thought and time. if my last journal was any indication, it is naive to expect people to have the energy to genuinely respond to even 1% of the media they are exposed to in a day... much less some kid's rambling from his laptop. and you know what? that's cool. that's life. speaking of my last livejournal (user : stukor) and the inevitable "hey scott why do you have a new livejournal... DON'T YOU KNOW YOU ARE WASTING INTERNET PAPER?!?!?" questions that will follow, i have two things to say. first, this one is kind of different in scope and purpose. secondly, i forgot my password and my old e-mail account that was connected to it was deleted for inactivity (thanks yahoo).
so basically i am too sweet to remember things.
that's all for now. much love.
scott kane stukel
